About

Greig Anderson ‘AND Golf’

I grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland, where there are worse places to accidentally become obsessed with golf.

My introduction came around the age of ten at Peterculter Golf Club, a few miles outside the city. It was already something of a family operation. My uncle George had helped build the course before becoming a greenkeeper, while my aunt Doreen ran the bar and, more importantly to a ten-year-old, had access to an apparently unlimited supply of blackcurrant lemonades.

Summers were spent at Peterculter. Playing golf, hanging around the clubhouse and generally finding ways to be at the course for as many hours of the day as possible. Eventually I landed what remains one of the better jobs I’ve had: manning the caravan halfway house beside the 9th hole.

The responsibilities were fairly straightforward. Sell drinks and snacks to golfers. Try not to eat the profits. And, whenever there was a gap between groups, grab a wedge and chip balls onto the 9th green until the next unsuspecting fourball appeared down the path.

In hindsight, getting paid to spend an entire summer watching golf and working on my short game probably should have been the peak. Instead, for reasons I’m still trying to understand, I decided to pursue a career in design.

That career took me into branding, eventually working with brands around the world, while golf was relegated to the very sensible position of occupying most of my spare time, disposable income and mental capacity.

The two worlds eventually became impossible to keep apart.

So I started AND, a design and branding studio dedicated to the game, its culture and the people trying to do interesting things within it.

Which means that, a few decades after those summers at Peterculter, I’ve somehow engineered a situation where I can once again spend most of the day thinking about golf and call it work.

The blackcurrant lemonades aren’t free now though.

Alongside AND, I am Co-Founder and Creative Director of the award-winning design agency Freytag Anderson, a Shot Scope ambassador, a founding member of the 1457 Society and regular flocker at the No Laying Up Roost, the RACDG. When not in the studio, you'll usually find me on the course as a member of East Renfrewshire Golf Club and Monifieth Links.

“Greig’s work on The Weight of Rory was incredible, and he constantly went above and beyond what we originally asked. We see and appreciate the effort he put into bringing the book into existence. Myself and Jason look forward to continuing to work with him.”
